Dharavi slum is located between Mumbai's two main suburban rail lines - Dharavi slum is routinely called "the largest slum in Asia," a dubious attribution sometimes conflated into "the largest slum in the world".
Dharavi slum is the second-largest slum in the continent of Asia after Orangi Town in Pakistan and the third-largest slum in the world, with an area of just over 2.1 square kilometres. Holding a population of around 700,000 and a population density of over 277,136 / km, Dharavi is one of the densest areas in the world.
A unique characteristic of Dharavi is its very close work-place relationship. Productive activity takes place in nearly every home. As a result, Dharavi's economic activity is decentralized, human scale, home-based, low-tech and labor-intensive. This has created an organic and incrementally developing urban form that is pedestrianized, community-centric, and network-based, with mixed use, high density low-rise streetscapes.
Unfortunately , Dharavi is depicted as a 'slum' that lacks residential infrastructure (roads, housing with individual toilets, public conveniences, etc.). In fact it is not a residential slum, but a unique self-contained township.
As Mumbai booms, the poor of notorious Dharavi slum find themselves living in some of India's hottest real estate sectors. Still Dharavi slums remains to be unique among other slums. A neighborhood smack in the heart of Mumbai, it retains the emotional and historical pull of a subcontinental Harlem - a square-mile (three square kilometers) center of all things, geographically, psychologically, spiritually.
Dharavi slum is one of the biggest slum in Asia people might have seen many slums around the world but talking about slums in Mumbai called Dharavi slum is very interesting because it is not only the slum where people will beg or harassed you for money no people are working very hard.

It is like a small scale industry people watching a movie "Slum Dog Millionaire" and wants to come and see the Dharavi slum but it is not the same what people have seen in the movie it is really a different world.
